• Students finished their group presentations today.
• Each student filled out a peer-evaluation rubric to assess the work done by each member of his/her Business Writing group. Each student also filled out a self-evaluation for the year-end project.

English 421:

• Students filled in the questionnaire on their English 421 portfolio which will be given to their English teacher for next year.
• Students completed and submitted their Julius Caesar literary analysis through turnitin.com and also submitted a hard copy to Ms. Clark
• The English 421 exam will be written Monday, June 13th at 9 A.M. in room 117.

• Students began their group presentations for the Business Proposal assignment. Group members are asked to make sure that Ms. Chandler has a copy of any slides that were used for the presentation.
• A paper copy of the group Business Proposal was due today.
• Tomorrow, we will finish the group presentations, complete peer-evaluations for group members, and enjoy some snacks.
• Writer’s Notebook entries will be accepted until the end of the class tomorrow.
• Students who are not present for their group’s presentation will receive a zero for the presentation. Students who are not present for the peer-evaluation of group members will receive a zero for the group work.

English 421:

• Students received their marked Act reviews.
• Students worked on their literary analysis in the library.  The literary analysis is due Friday and be accessed under the June files under the English 421 page.  Essays must be submitted through turnitin.com.  See Ms. Clark regarding signing up.
• For those students writing the exam, it’s scheduled for Monday, June 13th at 9 A.M. in room 117.

• Students worked in the library today to finish typing up their business proposals (due tomorrow: Thursday, June 9th), and their presentations for the business proposal (also due tomorrow).
• Students are reminded to email a copy of their media or Powerpoint presentation in case a member of their group is not present tomorrow. If the group is not prepared to present tomorrow, regular late marks will be deducted.
• Due today: Self Assessment/Defense of Course Credit. Students may print off a copy to hand in to me today OR submit to turnitin.com (it is not necessary to print a copy if submitted to turnitin.com).

English 421:

• Class performed Act V of Julius Caesar. Congratulations, class; you’ve performed an entire Shakespearean play!  Well done! 
• Act V was discussed, summarized and explained.
• The exam outline/review was discussed.
• Homework: continue working on the literary analysis which is due Friday.
• Note change in examination room: Ms. Clark’s English 421 exam will be written Monday, June 13th at 9 A.M. in room 117 (NOT 208 as originally planned).

• Samples of an essay cover page and works cited page were distributed.  Each can be found under the June files of the English 421 page.
• Students worked on the Julius Caesar literary analysis in the library which is due Friday, June 10th.  The literary analysis assignment can be found under the June files on the English 421 page.
• Homework: complete the Act IV review which is due Wednesday, and continue working on the literary analysis.

• Students worked in the library today to type up and pass in their group memo.
• Tomorrow, students will be in the computer lab completing the covering letter – due tomorrow.
• Students should also be working on writing their self-assessment and defense of course credit (guidelines on class webpage), which is due on Wednesday, June 8th.

English 421:

• Students performed Act IV which was also summarized and explained.
• Students handed in the Act III take-home review which was due today.  The Act III Review can be found under the June files on the English 421 page.

• A take-home review on Act IV was distributed which is due Wednesday, June 8th.  The Act IV review can be found under the June files on the English 421 page.
• Reminder that the Julius Caesar literary analysis is due Friday, June 10th.
• Homework: complete Act IV review and work on literary analysis.

• Students performed Act III scenes 2 and 3. Both scenes were summarized and explained. 
• The accompanying questions from the study guide for scenes 2 and 3 were discussed.
• Students viewed Act III in the film.
• Homework: complete the Act III take-home review which is due Monday.  Work on the five paragraph literary analysis for Julius Caesar (due Thursday, June 9) which can be accessed under the June files on the English 421 page.

• Due today: Essay Analysis Response. Students may upload responses to turnitin.com by 4pm for regular credit. If response is uploaded then it is not necessary to print off a paper copy.
• Students continued their group business proposal project. A copy of the assignment is available on our webpage. Also available are copies of the sample memo and sample covering letter.
• Tomorrow, students will continue working in their groups (in the classroom).

English 421:

• Class performed Act III scene 1 of Julius Caesar on the lecture theatre stage.
• Act III scene 1 questions from the study guide were explained.  The study guide can be found under the May files on the English 421 page.
• Class watched the film version of Act III scene 1.
• Homework: work on the 5 paragraph literary analysis which is due June 9.  Students have enough information from their copy of the summary of the play to complete the literary analysis.  The literary analysis can be accessed under the June files on the English 421 page.  Read Act III scenes 2 and 3, and complete the corresponding questions from the study guide.

• Students wrote the Act II quiz.  Any students absent today must provide a note from a parent/guardian in order to write the quiz tomorrow at lunchtime in room 219.  Any student without a note (an unexcused absence) will be issued a zero on the quiz as per English Department policy.
• Class viewed the rest of Act II on film.
• Students were handed back their five-paragraph character analysis.
• Students were assigned the 5 paragraph literary analysis on Julius Caesar which is due June 9.  A copy of the assignment was distributed and it can also be accessed under the June files on the English 421 page.  Students have enough information from the notes and summary of the entire play to complete the assignment.  Students have been strongly advised to write one paragraph each day.
• Homework: read Act III scene 1 and do the questions.  Start working on the 5 paragraph literary analysis which is due June 9. 

• Due today: Good News Article. Submit to turnitin.com and (if necessary to maintain organization of article) print off a copy to be corrected.
• Students worked with their “Business Partners” to create a team name a logo today.
• We discussed the relevant information and writing traits associated with creating an effective resume and cover letter.
• Students responded in their Reader’s Response Logs to the sample resumes and questions: List ten items that should appear on a resume, and list five items that should appear in a cover letter.
• In-class freewrite question: Of the 6 + 1 traits of writing, which two do you think are most important to creating a resume and cover letter?
• Resume/Cover Letter notes and writing prompts available on class page.

English 421:

• Class discussed and corrected Act II scene 2 from the Julius Caesar study guide which can be found under the May files on the English 421 page .
• Students performed Act II scenes 3 and 4.  Scenes 3 and 4 were summarized and explained to the class.
• A review sheet for Act II was distributed.  Students worked on the Act II review and then corrected it as a class. The Act II review can be accessed under the May files on the English 421 page.
• Homework: study the Act II review for tomorrow’s quiz.

• Due tomorrow: Good News Article. Articles should be uploaded to turnitin.com by 3:30pm. If the photo and columns are lost when uploaded, please print off a copy to submit with proper organization.
• Today, students spent some class time free-writing in response to the following questions (Writer’s Notebook): What are some of the major weaknesses of our school? What are the major opportunities available to our school? What are the major threats facing our school? What are some of the major strengths of our school?
• Students brainstormed ways in which the school shows weakness and strength.
• Students were assigned their groups/teams for the remainder of the school year (Business Writing unit). Groups are responsible for submitting a team name and logo tomorrow (class time will be provided).

English 421:

• Students performed Act II scene1 and watched that scene from Julius Caesar.
• Class discussed Act II scene 1 questions from the study guide.
• Students performed Act II scene 2.
• Both scenes 1 and 2 were explained and paraphrased.
